As part of its social responsibility initiatives, HELMEPA recently presented its annual postgraduate scholarships, totaling €90,000, to young scientists specializing in maritime and environmental studies. The ceremony was hosted at the OIL ONE facilities in Drapetsona, where members of the Association's Board of Directors honored academic excellence, reaffirming HELMEPA’s long-standing commitment to supporting scientific research.
The scholarships were awarded in memory of prominent maritime figures as follows:
- In memory of George P. Livanos, for postgraduate studies in Marine Technology, presented by Mr. John Xylas.
- In memory of Captain Vassilis C. Constantakopoulos for postgraduate studies in the same field, presented by Mr. Athanasios Beis and Mr. George Karageorgiou.
- In memory of Stavros Daifas:, presented by Ms. Irene Daifas to two scholars—who are twin sisters—specializing in the field of Sustainable Energy Technology.
- In memory of Athena I. Martinou: presented by Ms. Marina Martinou.
- In memory of Nikos Apostolopoulos: for studies in Maritime Law, presented by Mr. Spyros Apostolopoulos and Ms. Elektra Apostolopoulos.
- In memory of Vassos Hadjioannou: , for postgraduate studies in Environmental Engineering, presented by Ms. Maria Hadjioannou.
Following the completion of the ceremony, attendees were given a guided tour of the OIL ONE and HEC facilities, which specialize in the processing and treatment of shipboard oil waste. The tour was personally led by the founder of the group, Mr. Dimitris Melissanidis.
